Fireplace Instructions
Important Notes
Only use well-seasoned, dry wood for optimal stove efficiency and minimal creosote buildup. Wet wood reduces performance, harms the environment and will create excessive amounts of smoke
Dry wood can be found in the covered wood rack at the back of the house
Do not leave the fireplace unattended and do not leave the door open
Do not place anything other than wood and paper in the fireplace
Steps to Light a Fire
Prepare the Firebox:
Place 4-5 pieces of crumpled newspaper at the bottom of the firebox.
On top of the newspaper, arrange approximately 2.5 lbs of kindling in a loose, random pattern for good airflow.
Add about 3.5-4 lbs of small, dry pieces of cordwood on top of the kindling.
Adjust the Air Control:
Pull the air control fully out into the “HI” position.
Start the Fire:
Light the newspaper and leave the stove door slightly open for about 1 minute to allow good airflow.
If necessary (depending on chimney height and outdoor conditions), keep the door open slightly longer until the fire is well-established.
Close the Door:
Once the kindling has caught fire, close the door and allow the fire to burn down to create a coal bed.
Add More Wood:
Once a good coal bed is established, add approximately 14 lbs of larger cordwood for the first high burn.
Adjust for Desired Burn Rate:
After the high burn, adjust the air control for a medium or low burn setting as needed:
For medium burns: After the high burn load, add 16 lbs of wood, leave the air control fully open for 5 minutes, then adjust it to the medium setting (about 1 inch open).
For low burns: Use less wood and reduce the airflow further.
